Intervention
SEKI provides a one-stop location for medical professionals to find vaccine training opportunities online and offline.
SEKI will invite users to search for training courses near their home, and to pre-register free of charge for SEKI credits. The SEKI site will also provide videos, podcasts and other teaching formats that facilitate continuing vaccine education ’on the go’. For those who practice regularly and successfully, a credit system will incentivise health workers to prioritize vaccine-related educational content over areas that they may already be familiar with. SEKI will amplify existing vaccine training content available through National Paediatric Associations, ADVAC, WHO and others and also direct user traffic to educational tools emerging from the EU-Joint Action on Vaccination, the ECDC, the EMA and other stakeholders.
As SEKI users advance through the training modules and collect credits, they will be able to print out a personal certificate at any time providing proof of completed training activities. A simple evaluation form will be added to provide standardised user-feedback.
The European Board of Pediatrics has ample experience in harmonizing training content across Europe and will help to develop the longterm trajectory for SEKI training credits. The SEKI platform will be available via the SEKI website and various social media channels.

Progress
Over time, SEKI will help users to cover all significant areas of vaccine-related education, e.g:
- Mode of action of vaccines
- How vaccines are developed and tested
- Age-appropriate vaccine administration
- Documentation of immunisation events
- Recognizing vaccine hesitancy
- Legal aspects of immunisation
- Vaccine dialogue/ communication (incl. practical training)
- The rationale behind vaccination schedules
- Immunisation programmes and policies in Europe (overview)
- Media training including social media communication
- Vaccine effectiveness monitoring (basics)
- Vaccine pharmacovigilance systems and methods (basics)
- Vaccine immunology (basics)
- Risk communication and risk/benefit analysis (basics)
- Vaccine pharmacovigilance and safety reporting
- The principles of vaccine effectiveness surveillance
- Evidence-based vaccine science (understanding vaccine-related scientific literature)
- History of vaccines and immunisation
- The role of vaccines in a One-Health approach and antibiotic stewardship
- Vaccination programmes in Europe and beyond
- Vaccination strategies in the context of global health and pandemic preparedness
- The role of vaccine manufacturers and PPP
- Vaccine governance
Evaluation
The SEKI project aims to fight vaccine-preventable diseases and increase vaccination coverage in the European Union. SEKI deliverables are developed in strict compliance with the priorities outlined in the Council Recommendation and the Commission Communication.
The SEKI project will consist of a 3-step program providing a scalable system to improve and link vaccine-related training activities In the European Union.
The SEKI project will consist of a 3-step program providing a scalable system to improve and link vaccine-related training activities In the European Union.
- Linking educational resources: Information about existing educational resources will be mapped and collected in one online resource (website and mobile app). This includes training courses developed by European partners (such as the “wise immunizer”, in development at ESPID), weekend-seminars and “vaccination days” as well as high-quality online CME content (such as Medscape) and academic training courses as applicable. Suitable materials from non-EU sources (for example CDC’s “You Call the Shots” program and WHO training materials), from classes targeted to nurses and midwives (“shots for tots and others) and the highly specialized Advanced Course on Immunization (ADVAC) will be cross-referenced and integrated into the registry. Professional and scientific societies will be encouraged to set up vaccine education events at conferences and membership assemblies.
- Modules for pre-post testing will be made available to provide structure.
- The opportunity to collect credits and training points over time will be provided with the possibility to store them in the SEKI system.
